How Long Will Optimisation Take?

But, I suspect, when someone is asking me the above question, they want to know when they will start to see a return on their digital spend.
How long will it take to see results or get into the first page of Google for your main keywords – is a better question.
The time it will take to get into the first page of Google depends on where your website is right now, and how competitive your market is.
If your main keywords are on the second or third page of the search results you could see a quick result – between 2 and 4 months. But the first page of Google is not good enough, it is a good start, but most clicks go to the top three results – and that is more competitive after the changes to four Google adverts above the search results.
For new websites, you will need to put in a lot of marketing work over a longer period of time before you start to see substantial first page results. During this period, you will see an increase in traffic overall to your website – but often from long tail keywords that are relevant though not specifically targeted.
For example, one of my own websites was launched in April and was worked on consistently until the end of December that same year. In December it was number one in its niche and now has 100,000 visitors per month.
